Like many families, you probably enjoy getting away for a quick trip and there is no better way to do it than camping. It is enjoyable to go out in the great outdoors and spend some time enjoying each other’s company in such an environment. That being said, being prepared is one of the most important factors and this requires storing your camping gear properly between trips.
Many people simply have an area in the garage or basement where they put all of their camping gear in an out-of-the-way place. Although it certainly is possible to do so, you are really missing out on the enjoyment of having everything ready for you for the next outing.
When you get home from your outing and are ready to put things away, take a little bit of time to wash them properly before storing it. This is one of the best options for storing your camping gear. Wash your boots, scrub down your backpacks and sleeping bags and be sure to check everything from water filters to cooking gear. The cleaner you make things, the easier it will be to get going on your next outing.
Smaller items can typically be stored in large Ziploc bags. You can pick some of these up at most dollar stores. Larger items should be stored in plastic containers to ensure that the gear stays dry until it is time to go back out on another camping trip. If you are going to be storing it for the long term, be sure that you check it from time to time to ensure that moisture is not a problem.
If at all possible, store your camping gear in a dry, cool place inside of the home rather than storing it in the garage or basement. Typically, you can store most of it in a very small area and having it inside will help to protect the equipment further.
