Your camping vacation can be big on fun and light on chores if you make some of your meals in convenient foil packs. There isn’t much that can’t be cooked in these handy little individual serving dishes and they are only limited to your imagination. The convenience is in the fact that you can prepare them ahead of time, such as in the early morning or even at home before leave for your camping trip. You’ll be combining your favorite foods with some tasty spices and wrapping it all in foil. Then, when you’re ready to start a meal, you just drop them on the grill or in the campfire and they percolate into deliciousness your family will enjoy. After the meal you toss the foil and clean-up is complete.
Some tips to consider are as follows:
- Seal the packs by folding the edges. It will keep steam and liquid inside the foil pack much better than if you simply crimp them.
- Use heavy-duty foil. It is much sturdier than standard foil and will resist punctures and tears.
- If you’re cooking the packs in the campfire, put them on the coals – not directly in the fire.
- Give the packs a spin a couple of times while cooking to avoid hot spots and cook the contents evenly.
Some recipe ideas you might like to try include:
Dutch Oven Swiss Steak – Cube up some round steak and add chunks of onion, bell pepper, diced tomatoes, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and maybe some bouillon powder, butter and flour.
Creamy Chicken and Noodles – For this recipe you’ll need cubed chicken breast meat, noodles, cream of chicken soup, canned, fresh, or frozen veggies, milk, garlic, parmesan cheese, and bread crumbs.
